Are Acrylic Prints Better Than Canvas

Which are preferable, acrylic prints or canvas prints? Those that wish to transform their photos so they become wall art will have to choose between the two. Both acrylic and canvas have advantages, but below are some recommendations which will let you know which is best for specific scenarios.

What are Acrylic Prints?

Acrylic prints are a premium form of wall art. As such they tend to cost more, but you’ll receive true luxury which is worth it. The photo will be showcased in back of a three millimeter thickened panel which has pristine acrylic glass. The prints are usually sold with a design that is borderless which exposes its polished edges so they’re totally visible. Glossy acrylic surfaces are popular because they will project reflections over the image which produces a shimmering magical effect.

What are Canvas Prints?

Canvas material tends to be supple yet tough and is printed through the usage of quality HP based Latex ink. This ink is free of solvent and will obtain colors which are rich and extremely deep. The print canvas will also be wrapped around the pine stretcher style frame and must be pulled precise, taut and connected to the frame’s back.  For those that desire a stronger impact, there is the double thick extra-large stretcher frame, along with premium frames which will make the print appear as if it’s floating along the wall.

The Role of Acrylic Glass

When deciding between canvas and acrylic, one factor that must be taken into consideration is the glass. It is sold in two forms, which is acrylic premium and acrylic. The acrylic premium glass costs extra but the image will be reproduced utilizing photo paper which is laboratory grade, then subsequently laminated on a backing sheet prior to the glass being applied.  For standard acrylic, the photo will be directly printed on a multilayer backing sheet which is pure white in color, and it will be topped using acrylic glass.

Which is best?

The short answer is that it depends. Those that desire a higher quality print which is also economical will definitely want to use canvas. Most canvas prints will start at sizes such as 20 x 20cm, which is good for those that are just getting started with customized wall art. Those that want the absolute best contemporary decoration will definitely want to go for acrylic, especially if money is no object.

Acrylic prints have traditionally been used as statement pieces which are designed for higher end establishments such as gourmet restaurants, upscale night clubs or corporate executive suites. They cost a lot, but are the best money can buy. However, canvas is preferable for those that are going for an art studio or vintage design scheme.

This is because canvas prints manifest an aesthetic which is timeless, that combines fundamental classic lines with gallery appeal.  This means they’ll look wonderful when used as home decoration, in residences of all types. At the same time, acrylic is the print of choice for rooms which have lots of illumination, because acrylic prints typically feature shimmering glossy finishes, which gives them superb UV resistance.
